  • Lock Down Loo Roll Art "Love Culture"

I found the panic buying of loo roll during lock down to be an absolute farce. As a reflection on this, as well as the huge amount of rubbish created by modern living, I decided to use the discarded cardboard cores of loo rolls, combined with boxes and old newspapers to create something lovely. It's also lightened the load on the recycling bin considerably.

This one comes with a wordsearch of "Saxon Era Mercian Greats" created by Bigman on the back. Because, why not?

about

I stopped to listen to a busker on the way to college one day. He smiled at me and I ran off. By the time I got off my bus I had written this and annoyed all the other passengers.

This was the first song I wrote on guitar.

lyrics

Tangled Wood

I’m not singing ‘bout the busker on the corner
It’s his guitar I fell in love with when I saw her
And I know he thought my smile was for him and every song
As I stood for quite a while and I tapped my feet along
He took a moment for a cigarette and asked me for a light
He said I’m pretty sure you won’t regret coming home with me tonight
That kind of cockiness has often earned four knuckles to the jaw
But then my eyes spied that pretty little guitar on the floor

And I said I’d like to get to know every little curve
And run my fingers over you the way that you deserve
I’d like to know if we’d gel musically
Because I’m feeling pretty certain you’d look pretty good on me

He thought I was talking to him I almost laughed at his stupid grin
He thought he was pouncing on me but it was you that I wanted to see
Oohh hey hey oohh hey hey

I woke up feeling hollow and hungover
He smelled like cheap red wine and body odour
And the first thought I remember was I have to get away
But the second was the instrument I hadn't got to play
So I crept out very quietly from his room
Trying not to wake him as I searched around to find you
You were waiting on the floor above
And as I took you in my arms I was certain it was love

I spent an hour in your company
And when I went back downstairs he was frying eggs for me
He asked about my plans throughout the day
I said if you’re providing food well then I guess I’ll stay

And I’d fall into an untidy tangle of limbs just so I can tickle your strings
I’ll do whatever I’ve got to do just so I can spend some of my time with you
Some of my time with you, hey he, time with you some of my time with you, hey hey

And so I drifted through the best years of my life
Trying but not fitting the role of wife
The kids were happy accidents
And we managed to ignore each other trying to be parents
When the quiet came, when the chaos was through
That should have been the time that I really got to know you
But we were hiding in the attic, you’re guitar and me
Collaborating on another song about our longing to be free

I’ll admit I sometimes heard you on the stairs
And I got a bit pissed off with you just listening there
Did you never think to come and jam with me?
I’m sure if this was a duet it would end differently

But you wrote your own songs in your room and left me sat up here dissing you
If you had bothered with kissing me then you might have been missing me too
Oohh hey hey oohh hey hey

It took almost twenty years but he opened up that door
And while I sang my heart out he just sat there on the floor
So I gave him all my sorrow and my longing to be free
There were tears in his eyes when he finally looked at me and said
I know you often play her when you think I’m not around
But I’m very often listening and enchanted by the sound
Now it’s clear that you two get along so much better than you and I
So take this tangle of wood and teach yourself to fly
Hey hey fly hey hey
